For many, the long weekend was a moment of taking a time-out and remembering our service members who have gained an untimely one-way ticket, or have retired, to the Great Beyond. A weekend of extra thanks as well as a celebration of the people we knew and loved in life. For those who have served and have experienced the loss of your brothers- and sisters-in-arms, my heart goes out to you with thanks and empathy. For those who have served behind the scenes as family to those who have been lost, I send you a virtual hug (or handshake) of empathy and room for your grief. The Universe is being excessively playful with me lately. I'm not sure if you've noticed in my emails and Substacks, but I've been doing a lot of thinking about how I teach this compliance stuff. More importantly, though, I want to make sure I'm meeting you where and how you want to actually learn it. Or, let's be honest here, whether 'learn it' is even the right framing! It's okay. Sometimes we just want someone to tell us what to do right now to just get it over with. And that's precisely the shift that I'm feeling. I know the material I teach isn't something most people wake up excited to study. It's not even a topic that really lends itself well to 'study' like learning email marketing, or how to best use Google Workspace and all it's features, or even proper bookkeeping. What I teach is something you need when you need it... and you need it fast. To add to this, the push for AI and the ease of 'just ask [insert fave AI here]' has been climbing. And, as I've already seen, the responses can still be overwhelming and unclear (or wrong for you because you aren't a large manufacturer). And so this shift I'm feeling and super leaning into kind of falls into 3 categories:
And I'm sure there's a 4th kind of combined or 'other' category that I'm not thinking of. But as I'm working through my own shop and making small adjustments, I had this realization that instead of spending all of my pockets of time creating something I think would be helpful... why not just ask to make sure I'm actually heading in the right direction for you? So here's my ask of you: In the poll below, click the one that feels most true. I promise there is no commitment or specific pitch coming based on your answer, I truly just want to know so I use my time wisely. And, in the scope of transparency:
I'm updating and pivoting slightly to continue to grow with you. |

Well, I was going to pop in your inbox with probably the hundredth++ email about Black Friday, but I got an email that I really really need to share with you all. I've always had this in the back of my mind because I want to make sure that as many people can "see" everything I have available. Whether that is physically or through screen readers. But, like many, I never am actually sure if what I'm doing is "good". I've used Claude to help me find trouble points, and honestly? It's done pretty...
Funny enough, as I write this email, I'm listing to Billie Eilish's Bad Guy. hehe Overall, it was a pretty decent holiday 'break'. Two of my kids went to the amusement park with my mother in law and I'm so thankful she was able to take them. Buuuut... It started out with the kids spending the night with grandma which is normally just fine. They hung out in her swim spa, then my daughter hopped out to help with dinner and play card games. My son finally jumped out once dinner was ready to be...
Did you miss me this last Tuesday? This was one of those weeks where I don't think I sat down once. My husband's birthday was Friday, Father's Day was Sunday, and somehow in the middle of all that I blinked and now one of my kids turns twelve on Thursday. Twelve. I don't really know how that happened. I have approximately zero slow mornings to report. And in the middle of all that and client work, my phone was buzzing with Facebook notifications. I had a small flood of new member requests to...
